We played, like, "A Day To Remember" covers and a whole bunch of stuff.
And I remember specifically that "A Day To Remember" cover, I kicked my leg out to the audience to kind of cue them in to sing a part and the whole crowd sang back to me and that's when I knew I wanted to do music forever.
♪ Everyone is singing ♪ ♪ La la la ♪ ♪ If you can wait 'til I get ♪ - I'm Lainey Dionne and I'm an indie pop singer-songwriter from Smithfield, Rhode Island.
I started playing guitar when I was, oh God, maybe five.
I think my dad was playing all of the chords and I was strumming it and it was "Kiss Me," a good 90s tune.
I started playing piano when I was six years old and I played up until I was 18.
I actually got into Berkeley on piano, ended up going for music business and that's really helped form my career today, because right after graduating Berkeley, I got a meeting with Atlantic Records, which was amazing.
They sent me to a label in Nashville and then that's when everything kicked off like a crazy amount.
I got to write with the writers of The Jonas Brothers, the Dua Lipa, tons of amazing people.
♪ I'm a stranger inside my skin ♪ ♪ Only playing pretend ♪ One of my songs off of the album is called "Skin."
It got onto like 40 radio stations.
It was like kind of booming and Sync Agency found it and they signed me and they signed my whole catalog after hearing that song and it got placed into "Teen Mom" and then I signed six Sync deals and I've just been doing tons of shows ever since.
So when I write like indie pop songs for myself, I take that kind of soul and add it to the pop.
♪ Hey, London ♪ ♪ Losing my grip ♪ ♪ Don't mind the gap ♪ ♪ I'm so over it ♪ But when I'm writing for TV, I kind of have to put a different hat on.
So when you're writing for things like "Making the Cut," you have to write about like walking a catwalk and things like that, which I obviously have never done.
So when you're writing for TV, you kind of have to kind of be an actor when you're thinking about writing for it and putting yourself in that mode.
I've been very, very lucky to have caught the attention of the New England Music Awards.
I've been super lucky to have been nominated or won over 40 awards for my songwriting based off of my first album, self-titled.
As well as I released another EP in 2024 and still releasing music, which has been great.
I've been playing a lot with my band and I think next step forward for me is to just start playing bigger stages.
We've loved playing Providence, we loved playing Boston.
We would love to play with a major opening act.
I got to open for Drake Bell once, which was great.
"The Head and the Heart."
Some crazy venues in Rhode Island and it's just been really great.
So I think next step forward is to just keep playing out with the band and getting bigger stages.
I keep trying to one up myself in my career and I'm just gonna keep going with it.

Self-promotion is the one single most important thing you can do as an artist.
It's not easy but it is necessary because if you are not promoting yourself, then who is?
I'm Lila Wilde.
I'm disco's hot younger sister.
I'm really interested in like the retro pop music.
I like combining the older elements of the music in the 70s, 80s, 90s even with a modern day production feel.
♪ Jezebel ♪ ♪ They've been tearing down your idols ♪ ♪ Turning women into rivals ♪ My bassist Jacob Ott, he's a big collaborative of mine.
I work with another producer, Brendan Keenan, who is another collaborator.
When we're all sitting in the same room and the ideas are flowing, it's really easy to just like get a song done so quick.
It just pours out of you.
Other songs, my collaborator might send me a bass lick or a guitar riff and be like, "Do you hear anything in this?"
And I'll go flip through like my notebook.
I have pages and pages of lyrics and just be like, "Yeah, I think like this might fit."
And I sing something over it, send it back to him.
I attempt to put out a song a month.
That's not always possible, but I try my best to put out about a song every six weeks.
Real audio.
Part of being an artist that I'm learning is that it's give and take with your audience.
It's not just like, "Look at me, stream my music, buy my merch, go to my shows."
It's also like, "I'd like to offer you something.
I like to offer you a community, a place to, you know, be organically yourself and connect with the vibe."
Trying to find the balance between offering my music to the world and then also offering them something else to take away with them is a balance I'm still trying to strike online and, you know, we'll see where it goes.
(laughs) ♪ She's the queen of vanity ♪ ♪ Yeah ♪ ♪ Your hubris is ruthless ♪ ♪ Sow seeds but girl is it fruitless ♪ ♪ I wanna be the one that I can't be ♪ The hardest part for me was like combining all of these parts of my identity and then not being a perfectionist once I finished a video and realized, like, it's a 15 second video.
Like, it has to get out and I can't be like, "This isn't perfect.
My hair was, you know, just slightly off."
I also have a day job.
So, you know, it's like the second job that comes after the day job, to make content.
And that can be really hard for people too.
It takes a long time to make musical content.
Do you like disco music?
- Can I dance a little bit?
- Of course you can.
Oh my gosh, what.
And I think the other part that's difficult is knowing what content to put out there, what resonates with your brand.
I've been trying to give myself more grace and so I would love to extend that to the future of artists as well.
Like, give yourself some grace.
It doesn't have to be perfect at the beginning and you will find your niche over time.
That's what I would say to start out and then let the rest figure figure itself out.
