C. Morgan Grefe, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Historical Society explains how and why the Rhode Island State House was built. Constructed of more than 327,000 cubic feet of marble, the dome is the fourth largest self-supported dome in the world. Sitting on top is a bronze statue of the Independent Man, a symbol of freedom.
