“We dodged a bullet,” said one Murphy administrator describing less snowfall than predicted across the region in the first winter storm. There was just more than 12 inches in places like Vernon Township, instead of the predicted 18-24 inches. Newark saw a total of 11 inches, while most of South Jersey escaped the snow completely, though fierce winds on the coast clocked in at 50 miles an hour.
